Rehoboth Temple Launches GayByGod.net
Online Faith Community a Refuge for GLBT Individuals


NEW YORK, NY, July 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rehoboth Temple Christ Conscious Church, a diverse and eclectic affirming Progressive Pentecostal church that worships in the "black" evangelical tradition led by Pastor Joseph Tolton, today launched GayByGod.net. GayByGod.net, which was conceptualized by Pastor Tolton, is an online faith community that is a place of refuge for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people in need of healing in an environment free from the exclusion associated with traditional church experiences.

GayByGod.net is a place where spiritually-minded, same-sex loving individuals can find solace and refuel their spirituality from anywhere in the world. The site features a blog on spirituality and sexuality; the latte for the day, a daily dose of inspiration to encourage the GLBT community to live well everyday (spiritually and physically); GayByGod prayer band, an opportunity for the community to come together and pray for specific issues of relevance on a weekly basis; and GayByGod TV, featuring Pastor Tolton preaching, musicians performing transformational music, and commentary from the perspective of faith on GLBT issues in the media.

Pastor Tolton, Harlem's first openly gay pastor, serves the gay and lesbian community as a voice for spiritual freedom, social justice and economic empowerment. He developed GayByGod.net to encourage GLBT individuals to reclaim the God that religious people have taken away and to create a forum to take on homophobia espoused by the traditional church - particularly the black conservative church. Additionally, the site is a spiritual zone for straight people who seek relief from punitive theology and advocate living and loving in truth.

"I have always loved God and loved the Black Church. One of the most defining issues of my life has been the Church's damning stance on homosexuality," said Pastor Tolton. "As a boy, this condemnation shattered my spirit; as an adolescent, this ridicule broke my heart; and as a young adult, this disdain drove me to the brink," he continued.
