The Surrogacy and Egg Donation Center at Conceptual Options Suggests Caution When Selecting Your Egg Donor Agency
"Recently, we have heard from an alarming number of prospective Intended Parents that they have selected an egg donor with another agency - only to be informed that she is no longer available and all fees are non-refundable"
SAN DIEGO and LOS ANGELES, CA, November 10, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Egg Donation Center at Conceptual Options suggests caution and patience when selecting your egg donor agency. "Recently, we have heard from an alarming number of prospective Intended Parents that they have selected an egg donor with another agency - only to be informed that she is no longer available and all fees are non-refundable," states Tracy Armato, Surrogacy and Egg Donation Program Director for Conceptual Options. "We do understand as a service business that this can sometimes occur for legitimate reasons; however, it always causes us to pause since these Parents are then required to either select another donor through that agency or forfeit their paid fee," states Armato. In order to protect yourself, below are some suggestions to think about when selecting your agency.
Prior to signing a retainer with an Egg Donation Agency, you should ensure that the following safeguards are in place:
1. Has the agency independently verified the donor's credentials? Specifically, have those credentials been sent directly from the educational institution or college or did the donor send them in directly herself?
2. Has the agency obtained the medical records from previous cycles?
3. Has the donor actually been screened by the agency? And, what does their actual screening consist of? Remember numbers are not everything, as quality is much more important than quantity - so it is important to question those agencies that claim to have 1,000 or 1,500 donors on their database. Have they in fact spoken to these donors to ensure that they are actually available? And, how often do they verify this?
4. Also ask the agency whether their fee is refundable if the donor becomes unavailable to execute the donor cycle? If not, why not?
5. Are you required to sign a retainer and make payment with the egg donation agency prior to selecting your donor?
6. Does the egg donation agency offer any type of guarantee program?
7. What is the agency protocol if the egg donor fails medical screening?
8. What is the agency protocol if the egg donor fails psychological screening?
"Most importantly, please don't allow your emotions or a marketing gimmick allow you to overlook these obviously biased measures to get you in a program that may not be the right match for you," states Egg Donation Program Director Armato.
