Join Border Health Foundation to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS. The need for HIV/AIDS awareness remains a critical issue. Get tested. Become informed.
TUCSON, AZ, June 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Border Health Foundation (BHF), a non-profit organization, announced a campaign to increase HIV/AIDS awareness. While HIV-related deaths have decreased, an estimated 56,000 infections occur per year. More than 1 million people in the United States are living with HIV. Of those living with HIV, one out of five do not know they are infected. These statistics indicate that HIV awareness and training remain top priorities to reduce the number of infections. BHF encourages individuals to get tested and support National HIV Testing Day on June 27th.
Working with community-based organizations and public health departments throughout the country and its territories, BHF provides stellar training, technical support, and resources assisting these groups to develop and implement effective programs that increase awareness and reduce the risk of HIV transmission among high risk populations including but not limited to Hispanic/Latinos, African Americans, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders/Asians, and HIV positive individuals.
Through continued education, training, and awareness, BHF aims to reduce the number of persons at risk for acquiring or transmitting HIV.
Albert Moreno, Chief Executive Officer of BHF, states: "The fight against HIV/AIDS has raged for nearly 29 years in the United States. During this time government and community organizations have stepped up to combat this epidemic, however, there is still much work to be done."
