San Francisco/Oakland: Support Pink Diplomacy Walkathon August 14,2010 PINCC is the Brainchild of Retired Oakland Physician Dr Kay Taylor Who is Savings Lives Worldwide
PINCC (pronounced PINK), stands for Prevention International: No Cervical Cancer, is enhancing America's image in developing countries where the US is often seen as a villain. Every day, 800 women die of cervical cancer, a totally preventable disease.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- PINCC was founded by Dr. Kay, a retired physician who 5 years ago founded a fledgling organization with two close friends. These 3 are changing the face of cervical cancer and cervical cancer prevention in 9 countries on 4 continents. They are doing more to enhance America's image world wide than any politician, diplomat, or military maneuvers.
This tiny organization has grown over the last 5 years from a single site in Honduras, to training doctors and nurses at 30 sites in Africa, India, Central and South America. Returning every 6 months until the sites are self-sustaining, PINCC then donates the needed equipment to the trained personnel who can then treat women in one visit. An investment of only $15 can save a woman's life from this epidemic disease.
Operating on a shoestring budget with an army of volunteers, the doctors and nurses actually pay all of their own costs for the privilege of serving the incredibly grateful women and families in these small, rural communities.
This is the Second Annual Oakland Walkathon, the Walk for Women of Africa, to raise awareness and funds for the next campaign to Africa in August and September this year. Teams and individuals will walk around Lake Merritt in Oakland, 3.4 miles per lap.
Dr. Kay Taylor practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 25 years in the SF East Bay Area, before taking early retirement in 2005 to devote her life to saving lives and preventing unnecessary suffering and death from cervical cancer. In the USA, only 2.2 women per 100.000 die yearly of this disease, but in the Global South, the rate is over 40, where it is even measured; and they die at younger ages.
Dr. Kay is calling on communities across the United States to hold similar Walkathons, Dr. Kay says, "For the cost of one $15.000 drone bomb in Afghanistan that creates worldwide hatred for the US, we can save 1,000 lives, and create good will from thousands of women and their families, in both Muslim and non-Muslim communities."
Dr Kay is slowly being crowded out of her Oakland home as more and more rooms are taken over by PINCC's exploding needs: staging 6 campaigns a year, shipping medical equipment, and most important of all, looking for financial support to meet the overwhelming worldwide need. Dr. Kay is always delighted to enlist new civilian and medical volunteers, at home and abroad.
